Phuket police arrest two Myanmar men over killing near abandoned hotel in Cherng Talay

Police in Phuket said they have arrested two Myanmar nationals under court warrants in connection with the killing of a fellow Myanmar man whose body was found near an abandoned hotel in Cherng Talay.

Cherng Talay police said the case stems from a report received at about 7 a.m. on June 4, 2026, from a member of the public who found a body lying on a road near an abandoned hotel in Cherng Talay subdistrict, Thalang district.

Investigators, inquiry officers, forensic officials and a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital went to the scene.

Police identified the dead man as Ye Min Kyaw, 51, a Myanmar national. A forensic examination found multiple wounds from a sharp object, and a knife sheath was found near the scene, police said.

A black Honda PCX motorcycle was also found parked nearby. Police said the victim’s passport was discovered in the storage compartment under the seat.

Cherng Talay police said they then gathered evidence, questioned related witnesses and examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and along the suspected escape route. The investigation led police to identify people linked to the case and seek arrest warrants from the Phuket Provincial Court.

The court later issued warrants for two Myanmar suspects on a charge of jointly murdering another person, police said. The suspects were named as Thein Myint, also known as Jack, under Phuket Provincial Court warrant No. J 508/2569 dated June 9, 2026, and Kyaw Khaing, also known as Chid Min, on the same charge.

Police said the operation was carried out by Cherng Talay police investigators under the supervision of senior Provincial Police Region 8 and Phuket provincial police commanders.
