Phuket prison holds five-day family reunion programme

Phuket Provincial Prison has organised a five-day family visitation programme, allowing inmates to spend time with relatives in a more relaxed setting on 27, 28 and 31 July and 3 and 4 August 2026.

The 28 July session was dedicated to female inmates. The prison said 120 women took part with more than 300 relatives. Five children from Baan Tawan Chai, whose parents are serving sentences at the prison, also visited their guardians.

The programme included family photographs, music, conversations and shared meals. Visitors could also buy products made by inmates and use the prison’s CHU HUB café.

The visits followed a ceremony held to honour His Majesty’s birthday. The prison commander led officials, staff and inmates in offering royal tributes, taking an oath of allegiance and signing a book of blessings.

Phuket Provincial Prison currently houses 4,154 inmates, comprising 3,577 men and 577 women. Two children, a boy and a girl, are also living at the prison with their mothers.

The prison said it continues to provide programmes to prepare inmates for release, including vocational training in baking, embroidery, paper crafts, beauty services and garment making. It also operates an employment coordination centre and a mother-and-child support project.

The prison participates in the Correctional Institution Sharing Happiness: Doing Good for the Nation, Religion and Monarchy initiative, which aims to improve inmates’ access to healthcare. It also supports the Encouragement Project initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha, focusing on rehabilitation, vocational training, reducing repeat offending and helping former inmates reintegrate into society.
