Phuket Records Five Fatalities in Songkran Seven Days of Danger

Phuket recorded five fatalities during the Songkran Seven Days of Danger, according to official statistics released after the festival’s intensive road safety campaign from April 10 to 16, 2026. Authorities reported 32 accidents across the province, resulting in 29 people hospitalized and five deaths despite increased enforcement measures.

District Breakdown and Accident Patterns

Mueang Phuket District saw the highest toll, with 17 accidents, 16 injuries, and three deaths. Kathu District, which includes Patong, followed with nine accidents, while Thalang District reported six.

All five fatalities were Thai nationals. Injury victims included 55.17% Thai, 20.70% Myanmar, and 6.89% Russian nationals.

Motorcycles accounted for 93.76% of the accidents. Most incidents took place after midnight and into the early morning hours, a period flagged by officials as particularly high-risk during Songkran.

No foreign tourists were among the fatalities this year. Authorities continue to emphasize helmet use, speed control, and sobriety to address persistent risky behaviors among local road users.
