Phuket reports 33 firearms cases and 376 drug cases in security operation

Phuket authorities reported 33 firearms-related cases and 376 drug cases as security measures targeting weapons, drugs and other public-safety threats continued across the province.

The Mueang District Office reported five firearms cases involving five firearms, three firearm components and 55 rounds of ammunition between 12 and 15 August. Two cases were recorded in Mueang Phuket District and two in Thalang District. The Maneekram Unit, the Mueang Phuket District Office’s special operations unit, recorded one further case.

Phuket Provincial Police reported 28 additional cases involving 17 firearms, four firearm accessories or other related items, and 426 rounds of ammunition. The cases were recorded by police stations in Phuket Town, Patong, Thalang, Chalong, Tha Chatchai, Cherng Talay, Kamala, Kathu, Karon, Wichit and Sakhu, as well as by the Phuket Provincial Police Investigation Division. The report said no arrests had been reported in Kathu District in connection with the administrative operation.

Separately, authorities reported 376 drug cases involving 397 suspects between 1 July and 16 August under the “Operation 90 Days” initiative. Seized drugs included 130,470 methamphetamine pills, 7,490.53 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, 0.57 grammes of heroin, 3.08 grammes of cocaine, 12.21 grammes of ketamine and 250 alprazolam tablets.

An official report said assets valued at B3.69 million had also been seized or confiscated. The measures, ordered by the Ministry of Interior, include checkpoints, patrols and surveillance in high-risk areas, educational institutions and public spaces.
