Phuket stages World Environment Day event at Saphan Hin
Phuket officials and partner organisations held a World Environment Day event at Saphan Hin in Phuket Town, bringing together public agencies, students and community groups to promote environmental awareness and climate action.
Phuket marked World Environment Day with a multi-agency event at the King Rama X Commemoration Park at Saphan Hin in Phuket Town, led by Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation President Rewat Areerob.
Rewat presided over the opening ceremony. He was joined by PPAO Permanent Secretary Akkharawat Sirithanyathanakorn, who delivered the event report, and Phuket City Deputy Mayor Prasit Sinsawapak, who welcomed participants.
The event brought together representatives from government agencies, private-sector organisations, environmental groups, educational institutions, students and members of the public, reflecting broad cooperation on environmental protection efforts across Phuket.
Organisers said the programme was held in cooperation with partners including Phuket City Municipality, the Phuket Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment, the Pollution Control and Environment Office Region 15, the Phuket Provincial Industry Office, the Provincial Energy Office, the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office, the Phuket Provincial Agriculture Office and other government agencies. Community organisations, universities, environmental foundations and volunteer networks also took part.
According to the organisers, the event aimed to raise environmental awareness, encourage public participation in conserving natural resources and strengthen cooperation between sectors in addressing environmental challenges.
Activities included environmental exhibitions and educational displays from participating agencies, as well as youth-focused programmes under the theme “Earth Re-Gen: Youth Power to Combat Climate Crisis”. Students and young people joined an environmental project competition titled “Climate Action: Turning Global Warming Crisis into Sustainable Solutions”, while forums and discussion sessions were held for participants to exchange ideas on environmental management.
The event also featured food and product stalls promoting environmentally friendly alternatives and sustainable consumption practices.
World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5 following its designation by the United Nations to promote environmental awareness and international cooperation. Organisers said they hoped the Phuket activities would encourage greater environmental responsibility among residents, businesses and organisations and support the island’s long-term goal of becoming a sustainable and liveable tourism destination.
