A planning meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall on Friday, May 1, confirmed that Phuket will host the 3rd/2026 Joint Public-Private Sector Economic Development Committee meeting for the Andaman Sea provinces on May 19-20. Vice Governor Suwit Phansengiam chaired the session, where government officials and private-sector representatives finalized preparations for the regional economic event.
The meeting will cover the six Andaman provinces of Krabi, Trang, Phang Nga, Phuket, Ranong and Satun. Officials said the program is intended to highlight Phuket’s economic potential and strengthen cooperation across the region.
Study tour to feature dental center and Phuket Eye project
A key part of the two-day program is a study tour focused on innovation, healthcare and public safety projects in Phuket.
Delegates are scheduled to visit the Songklanagarind Digital Dental Center at the Prince of Songkla University Phuket campus, which serves as a regional center for advanced dental treatment, teaching and research using digital technology.
The visit will also include a presentation on the proposed Andaman Health Center project, which is intended to reinforce Phuket’s role as a medical hub in southern Thailand.
Another stop is the Phuket Eye project, a province-wide smart surveillance system that uses CCTV cameras and integrated technology to monitor traffic and improve public safety.
May 20 policy talks to address infrastructure and investment
On May 20, Phuket will host a meeting of the Southern Andaman Provincial Cluster Development Committee, bringing together representatives from all six provinces for policy discussions.
Officials said the session will address shared economic challenges, investment opportunities and long-term development strategies. Topics expected for discussion include infrastructure development, tourism recovery and diversification, logistics, and measures to strengthen regional competitiveness.
An exhibition of One Tambon One Product goods from each province will run alongside the formal meetings to give entrepreneurs a venue to showcase and sell products. During Friday’s preparatory session, authorities also assigned agencies to handle venues, transport, accommodation, security, public relations and hospitality for visiting delegates.
