Phuket to launch creative tourism project centered on cultural capital — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Phuket will hold a two-day cultural capital event at Saphan Hin on May 15-16 to showcase contemporary artistic identity and expand creative tourism, the Provincial Cultural Office said Wednesday. The program, titled “Yolngan Sin, Withi Thin Phuket Su Kan Songserm Kan Thongthiew Choeng Sangsan,” will run from 5pm to 8pm and includes learning sites, tourism sites and artist homes.
The initiative is being promoted as a tool to develop the provincial economy through art, culture and local wisdom under the concept “Yoo Yen Pen Sin.” Officials said it is intended to turn cultural assets into sustainable grassroots economic value.
Artists, venues and art forms included in the program
The exhibition will bring together artists from Aree Phuket Art Gallery, Phuket Art Village, YorYing A Small Art Space Baan Thai Art Gallery, Sepsin Rincha, the Ban Kuku art learning center for sufficiency economy development, and independent artists.
Works on display will span oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor, abstract art, contemporary art, Thai painting, contemporary writing, sculpture and environmental art made from marine waste. The program will also include local handicrafts such as Thai-pattern batik and live performance art.
Deputy Governor Col Adul Chuthong joined the launch with Supawadee Paipak, acting provincial cultural chief, Somsak Sophanon, president of the Phuket Cultural Council, Anchalee Vanich Thepbutr, president of the Phuket Art Association, and Phuket City Mayor Supachok La-ongphet. Activities during the event will include artist home openings, displays of local wisdom and workshops designed to connect art with community, society and the environment.
