Phuket woman alleges Moroccan man stole gold and cash worth more than B140,000

A Thai woman in Phuket allegedly lost gold and cash worth more than B140,000 after a Moroccan man she met on a dating application took the valuables from her accommodation, according to an account shared by her friend.

The friend told Phuket Times that the woman had been dating the man for about three weeks before the alleged theft. She said he took a gold necklace worth about B130,000 and approximately B8,000 in cash from the woman’s accommodation.

The man was also accused of taking B4,000 from a Myanmar maid before fleeing. The date and time of the alleged theft were not disclosed.

The friend said the victim had filed a complaint with local police but had not received an update. She added that they had a photograph of the Moroccan man and his passport details, and believed he had already left Phuket. Police had not confirmed that information.

Phuket Times reported the case on 28 September and warned the public about meeting foreigners through social media or dating applications.
