Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered investigations on May 14 into foreign nominee networks and public land encroachment in Phuket and Surat Thani after a ministerial inspection the previous day. The order followed visits to Freedom Beach in Phuket and Koh Phangan, where he tracked illegal business activity alongside Cabinet members and Interior Ministry officials.
Government House sources said Anutin urgently summoned Department of Provincial Administration chief Narucha Khosasivisai during the trip. He told Narucha to examine whether district chiefs and provincial administration officers in both provinces failed in their duties by allowing the alleged violations to persist.
AMLO ordered to trace officials' finances
Officials said the prime minister reported seeing offenses firsthand and also received public complaints alleging involvement or negligence by state officers at several levels. Those complaints named officials from the provincial administration, police and other agencies.
Anutin also instructed Narucha, who sits on the Anti-Money Laundering Office board, to use AMLO mechanisms for a special review of financial trails linked to administrative officials and police in Phuket and Surat Thani. If investigators find links to foreign nominee networks or improper benefit-seeking, legal and disciplinary action must follow.
The order signals a broader government push to dismantle influence networks and illegal operations tied to expanding gray-capital interests in key tourism areas.
