Police arrest 11 teenage motorcyclists over fireworks in Phuket

Police in Phuket arrested 11 teenagers aged 15 to 18 after they allegedly caused a public nuisance by revving motorcycles and setting off firecrackers and fireworks in Muang district early on Thursday, 8 October.

Officers from Wichit police station detained the motorcyclists on Borae-Mudong Road after social media users posted videos showing two groups, one of seven riders and another of four, making noise and lighting fireworks.

The teenagers were charged with illegally using fireworks and firecrackers, posing threats to life and health, and creating smoke and smells that caused a nuisance, police said. Their parents or guardians were called to acknowledge the charges. The teenagers were fined and their motorcycles confiscated.

Police also seized fireworks, firecracker launchers and brass knuckles.
