Police arrest passenger at Phuket checkpoint with 1,026g of crystal meth and 400 ecstasy pills
Police say a search of a passenger’s backpack at a Phuket checkpoint found more than 1kg of crystal meth and 400 MDMA pills.
Police arrested a passenger at a Phuket checkpoint on Tuesday evening, 18 August 2026, after allegedly finding 1,026.23 grammes of crystal methamphetamine and 400 ecstasy pills in his backpack.
The arrest took place at about 6:45pm during a drug prevention and suppression operation, after officers became suspicious of the man travelling into Phuket, police said. The methamphetamine was contained in 10 bags, with the stated weight including packaging.
The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Pakindi Wannadi, a resident of Bon Nam Subdistrict in Khanu Woralaksaburi District, Kamphaeng Phet Province. Police said he was informed of the charges and his legal rights before being taken into custody.
Pakindi and the seized drugs were handed over to investigators at Tha Chatchai Police Station for further legal proceedings. The operation was conducted under the direction of Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum and Tha Chatchai Police Station Superintendent Pol Col Khundech Na Nongkhai.
