Police arrest suspect in Rawai luxury villa burglary
Phuket police arrested a 34-year-old suspect over a nighttime burglary at a luxury villa in Rawai after tracing him to a rented room in Karon.
Police in Phuket have arrested a 34-year-old man accused of breaking into a luxury villa in Rawai at night and stealing cash and jewelry earlier this month.
Chalong Police said a foreign resident reported on May 12 that an unknown intruder had entered their villa at the Selina Serenity Hotel in Rawai, in Muang district, during the night and escaped with valuables including cash and jewelry.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage, traced escape routes and monitored the movements of possible suspects. Their investigation led the Phuket Provincial Court to issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Banphot, whose surname was withheld, on a charge of nighttime burglary in a dwelling.
Police said the suspect had no fixed residence and tried to evade arrest, which complicated the investigation. Detectives later found him hiding in a rented room in Karon, also in Muang district, and arrested him on May 26.
During questioning, the suspect confessed to the Rawai burglary and said he had sold the stolen property in Nonthaburi province, according to police. He was charged under the court warrant and transferred to Chalong Police Station for legal proceedings.
Police said further investigation found that the suspect had committed multiple similar burglaries in the Rawai and Wichit areas, with stolen goods consistently sold to buyers in Nonthaburi. Authorities said they are expanding the investigation to identify and prosecute those who bought the stolen property.
