Police have arrested a 21-year-old French national in connection with a violent brawl that left a Thai local injured during the Songkran festival in Phuket. The altercation took place at about 8:30 PM on April 12 near the entrance of Malin Plaza Market, where 38-year-old Mr Weerasak Mudlee was assaulted. The suspect, identified as Mr Mohamed from Paris, fled the scene, prompting a police investigation.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Patong Police Station investigators gathered evidence after the complaint was filed, leading to an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court. Officers, under the direction of Police Colonel Korkrit Khantakrue, tracked down and detained Mr Mohamed on April 21, 2026.
Authorities have charged the Frenchman with assault resulting in physical or mental harm. He has been handed over for formal prosecution. Police noted that the arrest aligns with ongoing efforts to maintain safety during major tourism events such as the Songkran water festival.
