Police seize 6.198 kilograms of heroin hidden in parcel bound for Phuket

Police in Phuket on Tuesday examined 6.198 kilograms of heroin allegedly concealed inside Thai clothing in a parcel shipment addressed to a housing estate in Thalang. The case was presented at Wichit Police Station on May 5 after officers linked the package to alleged possession of a Category 1 narcotic and an attempted illegal export from Thailand.

Parcel traced from Loei to a private delivery company

The seizure grew out of an inspection by Narcotics Suppression Bureau Division 4 officers and Wichit police, who intercepted a suspicious parcel sent through a private transport company, police said.

Investigators said the shipment originated in Loei province and was addressed to Phuket Villa Airport in Sakhu subdistrict, Thalang district.

The package consisted of 2 sacks containing 48 ready-made sets of Thai clothing. A detailed search found the heroin hidden inside the garments, officials said.

The parcel was seized on April 30. Phuket forensic officers are now collecting latent fingerprints from the clothing and packaging to build evidence for court applications for arrest warrants against those involved.
