Police seize six modified motorcycles in Wichit street-racing crackdown
Police in Wichit seized six modified motorcycles in an overnight street-racing crackdown after residents complained about noise and dangerous riding near Laem Dinso and along Sakdidech Rd.
Police in Wichit seized six motorcycles during an overnight operation targeting illegal street racing and modified exhaust systems after residents complained about noise and dangerous riding.
The crackdown was carried out from Friday into Saturday, June 12-13, after reports that groups of teenagers had been gathering to race motorcycles and create a public nuisance with excessively loud exhausts.
Officers were joined by Moo 6 village headman Kittithach Khuangla and patrolled areas across Wichit, using flashing lights to deter gatherings and monitor roads where street racing has been reported. The operation focused on roads near the Laem Dinso viewpoint, which police said has repeatedly attracted groups of young riders.
Police said the six motorcycles that were seized had been modified with illegal loud exhaust pipes. The vehicles were taken to Wichit Police Station, where investigators recorded the seizures and began legal proceedings against those responsible.
Wichit Police Superintendent Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang said police have been working with community leaders and volunteers to monitor and suppress illegal street racing in the area. He said officers have received numerous complaints from residents along Sakdidech Rd and in the Laem Dinso area about the noise and danger caused by modified motorcycles and racing on public roads.
As a result, police have continued setting up checkpoints along Sakdidech Rd to intercept offenders. Pol Col Somsak said Wichit Police had previously arrested many teenagers involved in street racing and seized hundreds of motorcycles as part of ongoing enforcement. He said police would continue strict action against illegal racing and motorcycles modified in violation of traffic regulations.
