Ratsada signs agreement for 4.8km underground power-line project
The project will replace overhead electricity infrastructure along three major roads in Ratsada, Phuket.
Ratsada municipality has signed an agreement with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to upgrade about 4.8km of electricity distribution lines with underground cables in Ratsada, Phuket.
The agreement was signed on Monday, 3 August 2026, at the A2 Hotel by Ratsada Mayor Jirayus Songyot and PEA Deputy Governor for Electricity System Operations Thana Chokprasombat, signing on behalf of PEA Governor Mongkol Treekijjanon.
The works will cover Ratsadanusorn Rd from Thepkrasattri Rd to the Triple T Broadband Phuket Branch Service Centre, a stretch of about 1.7km; Pracha Samakkee Rd, about 2.1km; and Srisuthat Rd from the Srisuthat-Srisena intersection to Koh Sireh Bridge, about 1km.
Municipal officials said the routes were selected because they serve residential and commercial areas. Mayor Jirayus said underground lines would support urban growth, improve the reliability of electricity distribution and reduce the risk of outages caused by storms, falling trees and traffic accidents affecting overhead cables. He also said the project would improve the municipality’s appearance.
Ratsada Deputy Mayor Withiwat Kulsiriittikorn said the project formed part of plans to improve public utility infrastructure and support residential and economic growth. PEA representatives said the cooperation would help develop a more stable electricity network as Phuket’s electricity demand increases.
No construction timetable or project budget was announced at the signing ceremony.
