Ratsada signs flood prevention pact with seven agencies
Ratsada Municipality has signed an agreement with seven agencies to improve coordination, information sharing and emergency response for flooding.
Ratsada Municipality has signed a memorandum of understanding with seven agencies to improve coordination on flood prevention, mitigation and emergency response in the Phuket municipality.
The agreement was signed on 15 October 2026 at Phuket Rajabhat University during the second 2026 meeting of the working group on flood prevention and mitigation in Ratsada. Phuket Vice Governor Romdon Hayiawae presided over the ceremony, which was attended by Ratsada Mayor Jirayus Songyos and municipal officials.
The signatories were Ratsada Municipality, Phuket Rajabhat University, the Phuket Provincial Office of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, the Phuket Provincial Office, the Phuket office of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation and the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) Phuket station.
Jirayus said the agreement would establish clearer operating guidelines, improve information exchange and strengthen cooperation among agencies involved in flood prevention and emergency response.
He said previous cooperation had faced obstacles and delays, including when agencies requested data or arranged joint operations. The memorandum is intended to remove those procedural barriers and enable more efficient collaboration.
The initiative aims to improve preparedness for water-related emergencies, reduce the potential impact of flooding on residents’ homes and property, and strengthen public confidence in local flood management. The meeting also allowed the participating agencies to coordinate their plans and develop practical approaches to preventing and mitigating flooding in Ratsada.
