Chalong police and Phuket social welfare officials inspected a massage shop in Rawai on May 13 after receiving information that it may have exploited a person under 18, authorities said. The Rawai raid led officers to rescue a 16-year-old girl found inside the business and begin a human trafficking screening process.
Police said the operation followed an investigation and collection of evidence before officers entered the premises. A female shop owner and one employee were taken into custody for legal action.
Victim protection and wider investigation
The 16-year-old was transferred into the victim identification and protection process run by the Phuket Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office. Officials said the process is intended to safeguard her legal rights and welfare.
Investigators are examining the conduct of those involved and the nature of the shop’s services. They are checking whether the case falls under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and other related laws.
Chalong police also warned business operators to comply strictly with the law, especially in cases involving anyone under 18, which they described as a serious offence carrying heavy penalties.
