Rayong fake donation allegations recall Phuket police-impersonation case

Men posing as immigration officers allegedly demanded B2,000 charity donations from Chinese residents in a Rayong housing development and took property from some homes, according to a housing manager who spoke to Channel 7 on August 12.

The manager, Thammaporn, said three men wearing uniforms resembling those of immigration officers arrived in a black pickup truck and approached Chinese residents at their homes. They reportedly encouraged residents to buy charity tickets priced at B2,000 each, and most residents agreed to pay.

Thammaporn alleged that the men also entered homes or removed property when residents were away. One Chinese resident reportedly filed a complaint with Nong Krap Police Station after old accessories went missing from a home.

Payao, a nearby community leader, said the group had also pressured Thai residents and monks to buy the tickets. Payao further alleged that the men waited outside factories employing Chinese nationals and approached workers as they finished their shifts.

The men’s identities had not been disclosed, and no police update on the investigation had been released at the time of the report.

The allegations recall a similar case in Phuket in December 2025, when two Thai men were arrested after allegedly posing as police officers and using a fake donation campaign to extort foreign residents. The arrests followed a German family providing police with CCTV footage of the reported incident.
