Restaurant owner chases off burglar with samurai sword

A restaurant owner in Phuket chased off a would-be burglar with a samurai sword after confronting the intruder inside his shop at about 3am on April 20. CCTV footage from Wai Photchana restaurant on Narang–Borrae Rd captured the suspect prying open the door before being confronted by Saiwai Chantharamuang, 46, who was still awake inside.
Owner’s Response and Suspect’s Escape
As Mr Saiwai emerged carrying his sword, the thief quickly exited the premises. The owner pursued, striking the suspect once with the blunt side of the weapon in an attempt to prevent escape.
Mr Saiwai later emphasized he did not intend serious harm, only to stop the burglar from fleeing. The suspect is believed to have suffered minor injuries before escaping the scene.
Police Investigation and Location Details
No property was reported stolen, as the suspect fled without gaining entry to the main area of the restaurant. Mr Saiwai filed a complaint with Wichit Police Station at 4:07pm, requesting legal action.
Police confirmed receipt of the report and are reviewing CCTV footage while gathering evidence to identify the perpetrator. The incident occurred between Maimorn Resort and the Muang Thong roundabout, near Big C Thung Charoen 1 in Wichit.
