Rough seas forecast off Phuket as monsoon persists

Waves along the Andaman coast from Phuket northwards are forecast to reach 2–3 metres on August 10, rising above 3 metres during thunderstorms, as a relatively strong south-westerly monsoon persists over the region.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) said south-westerly winds along the coast would reach 20–40 kilometres per hour during the 24-hour period from 6am on August 10 to 6am on August 11.

The TMD advised mariners to navigate with caution and avoid areas affected by thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea were advised to remain ashore.

The department also forecast thunderstorms across 30% of Thailand’s south-west coast, with heavy rain in Ranong and Phang Nga.
