Russian man arrested at Tha Chatchai with 1.8kg of drugs
Officers arrested 29-year-old Russian national Gorskii Matvei while inspecting a Phuket-Pattaya bus entering the province, according to a police report.
A 29-year-old Russian man was arrested at Tha Chatchai checkpoint in Phuket on May 19 after police inspecting a Phuket-Pattaya bus entering the province found about 1.8 kilograms of drugs in his bag. Police identified the suspect as Gorskii Matvei and said officers stopped the Scania passenger bus for a routine inspection before making the arrest.
Search turned up meth, ketamine, heroin and other drugs
Police said Gorskii appeared nervous and agitated when he saw officers. He allegedly tried to push a bag farther under his seat and could not produce his passport when asked, prompting officers to search his belongings after obtaining consent.
The search of a shoulder bag uncovered 564.74 grams of crystal meth, 471.92 grams of mephedrone, 129.8 grams of heroin, 51 grams of ecstasy, 54.6 grams of amphetamine and 582 grams of ketamine. Officers also seized two mobile phones, a MacBook laptop and B11,320 in cash.
Investigators charged him with selling Category 1 narcotics with intent to sell without permission and causing the drugs to spread among the public. The suspect and all seized items were handed over to investigators at Tha Chatchai Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Police said the investigation is continuing to identify and dismantle any wider drug network.
