Russian tourist praised after helping elderly vendor at Phuket viewpoint

A Russian tourist was praised online after he helped an elderly Thai vendor push a cart up a steep hill at Windmill Viewpoint in Rawai, Phuket, on May 7. The act was captured on video and shared widely on social media, where witnesses and commenters highlighted the brief roadside assist.

The footage, posted by the Facebook page โหดจัง จังหวัดภูเก็ต, showed the man pushing the cart uphill while the vendor walked behind him. The viewpoint is in Rawai subdistrict in Mueang Phuket district.

Witnesses at the scene reportedly commended the man’s actions as the clip circulated online.

Comments that followed focused both on the help itself and on broader views about nationality and religion. One user wrote, “Tourists like this are always welcome,” while another said, “There are good and bad people in every country.”

Several users also said the video reflected generosity shown by many Russian visitors in Thailand.

Separate Bangkok incident also highlighted by Thai users

The online attention around the Rawai clip came alongside praise for two foreign men who helped a Thai woman on a footpath in Sathorn, Bangkok.

A Facebook page sharing that footage warned people in the area and said a man who appeared mentally ill had grabbed the woman’s arm before moving ahead and waiting for her to pass.

The video itself did not show the alleged grab. It showed the woman walking slowly and keeping her distance from a man dressed in black as two foreign men in dark blue shirts approached from the opposite direction.

One of the men, who was wearing a black cap, appeared to notice her behaviour, alert his companion and place himself between the woman and the man so she could walk past safely.
