Singapore and Thai naval vessels docked in Phuket during the annual SINGSIAM exercise, Thai authorities said on May 24.

The Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Centre Region 3, based at the Royal Thai Navy Third Naval Area Command at Cape Panwa, announced that HTMS Taksin from the Gulf of Thailand and two Republic of Singapore Navy vessels, RSS Unity (17) and RSS Stalwart (72), were in Phuket while the exercise was under way.

The exercise, referred to in the new source as SINGSIAM 2026, is being held from May 20-27 in the Andaman Sea area. Thai MECC 3 said SINGSIAM alternates between host nations each year, with Singapore hosting this year’s drills. The Third Naval Area Command has deployed HTMS Kraburi to take part.

Officials said the exercise is intended to strengthen relations between Thailand and Singapore, improve cooperation in protecting maritime interests and support regional maritime security.

During the exercise, the vessels anchored at Phuket Deep Sea Port in Ao Makham. After completing training operations, crew members came ashore for sightseeing, rest and relaxation in Phuket, authorities said.

Thai MECC 3 said the visit by naval personnel also helped support the local economy and tourism sector. The new source said their presence also contributed to tourism and hospitality businesses. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting national maritime interests and maintaining safety in the Andaman Sea.

It also reminded the public that maritime emergencies or incidents can be reported through its 24-hour hotline, 1465.
