Six injured after Hat Yai-Phuket bus crashes into power pole in Phang Nga

Six people were taken to hospital after a Hat Yai-Phuket bus crashed into a power pole at the Khok Kloi traffic-light intersection in Phang Nga’s Takua Thung district at about 4:42am. The crash occurred opposite the new bus terminal on the bypass road.

There were 22 passengers and bus personnel on board, according to the report. The bus was badly damaged and its driver, Samroeng Chaithong, 62, was trapped inside before rescue workers freed him using cutting and spreading equipment.

The six injured people were taken to Takua Thung Hospital. Chaithong suffered a deformed right leg. Bus employee Phaiwan Khaophong, 58, suffered a head laceration and reported amnesia. Chawalit Rujirarungruang, 73, injured his left ribs; Francesco Bonanomi, 20, bruised his left hip; Pharadee Rujirarungruang, 69, bruised her head; and Pinhathai Pongprapan, 46, reported pain in her left knee.

Two other passengers travelling with the group were taken by ambulance but were not injured. Another 14 people remained at the scene and were initially reported to have no injuries. Police were investigating the cause of the crash.
