Sleeping woman bitten by cobra in Mai Khao home

A woman was bitten by a cobra while she was asleep in her home in Baan Mak Prok along Thepkrasattri Road in Mai Khao at about 9:30pm on June 17, according to an account shared by her son.

The incident became public after the son, who posts on Facebook under the name Hod Pornthep Tupuan, shared CCTV footage and described what happened. He said the cobra entered the house, reached the bedroom and climbed onto the bed before biting his mother.

He wrote that he had returned home earlier than usual that evening and heard his mother scream. When he rushed into the bedroom, he found the cobra beside the bed. He said he used a metal rod to restrain the snake before killing it with a broom handle.

He then took his mother to Thalang Hospital for treatment. She is now in stable condition and out of danger, though doctors are continuing to treat the bite wound, which reportedly caused tissue damage and partial necrosis.

The case has renewed warnings for residents to be especially vigilant during the rainy season, when snakes and other venomous animals are more likely to enter homes in search of shelter. Residents are being urged to check bedrooms, storage areas and other hidden spaces where snakes may hide.

In a separate Phuket incident, a large king cobra was safely captured after entering a home in Soi Naya in Rawai. Homeowner Sukchai Yasawasuvisut said he discovered the snake after hearing his dogs barking unusually during the night and called Rawai Municipality disaster prevention and relief officers.

Rescuers took nearly an hour to capture the king cobra, which measured about two to two-and-a-half metres long, before releasing it in a remote natural area away from communities. Mr Sukchai said it was the second king cobra found on his property within the past four months.
