A speedboat fire broke out off Ao Makham Bay in Phuket at 5.20pm on May 10, after the Pearl Center of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organization’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division received a report of flames on the LoveAndaman vessel. Officials were mobilized to the scene as authorities began working to determine the cause.
The incident prompted an immediate order from PPAO President Rewat Areerob for Pearl Center officers and rescue personnel to respond by water. The firefighting boat Kaimook Andaman 5 was dispatched to bring the blaze under control.
Fire boat sent to prevent spread to nearby vessels
Responders were en route with orders to spray water on the fire and stop it spreading to other boats moored nearby, officials said.
The operation also aimed to limit any impact on the marine environment in the bay.
Authorities were separately checking details of the speedboat and coordinating information about the company that owns it.
Officials were also verifying whether anyone was injured or otherwise affected by the fire.
