A sudden whirlwind swept across Kata Beach in Phuket on November 3, sending beach umbrellas, sun loungers and other belongings flying as tourists scrambled to avoid the strong winds.
The incident occurred at about 11am in Karon subdistrict, Mueang Phuket district, according to The Thaiger. Video shared on Facebook by user Bualoy Chimpithak showed swirling winds lifting beach equipment and scattering it across the sand.
The footage drew concern online. Some commenters warned that metal umbrella poles could cause serious injuries if they struck people, while others questioned why people remained near the gusts.
The incident has raised safety concerns for tourists and beach operators during sudden strong winds, particularly when umbrellas and other lightweight furniture can become airborne.
