Police in Patong inspected a self-storage locker in Phuket on May 13 after staff at Mespace Self Storage Patong in Jungceylon found five firearms and 100 rounds of ammunition inside. The locker had been rented under the name Elmi Ahmed Mohamed, a Swedish national, and had gone unpaid for more than 120 days before the company opened it for inspection on May 12, officials said.
The unit was locker No. 2184 on the second floor of the facility at 181 Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd. Company representative Kirakorn Chiaochan said firearms are prohibited items under the storage company’s rules, prompting staff to alert police immediately after the discovery.
Police seize registered handguns for legal checks
Investigators and Patong police officers found four 9mm Glock pistols and one CZ handgun during the inspection. They also recovered two boxes of 9mm ammunition, with 50 rounds in each box, for a total of 100 rounds.
Police seized all items to trace their origin. Initial checks found the firearms were registered, but officers are still examining whether they were legally possessed.
