Teen arrested in Phuket checkpoint with modified gun and 11 bullets
Phuket City Police said the arrest was made during a checkpoint operation conducted between 1am and 2am on Ruam Pattana Rd in Rassada.
An 18-year-old was arrested during a Phuket checkpoint operation early on May 15 after police said he was found carrying a modified gun and 11 rounds of .380 ammunition. Phuket City Police said the arrest was made between 1am and 2am on Ruam Pattana Rd in Rassada, where officers stopped and searched people and vehicles during the overnight operation.
The suspect was identified only as Mr Nutt. He was taken to Phuket City Police Station for questioning and formal arrest procedures, police said.
Checkpoint search and charges
Phuket City Police said officers searched 30 people, 10 cars and 20 motorcycles during the operation. The checkpoint was conducted under the direction of superintendent Pol Col Chatree Chukaew and led by patrol officers including Pol Lt Col Sarun Chaiwut, Pol Lt Col Piya Yongpraderm and Pol Lt Theerasak Thongnoon, along with motorcycle patrol officers.
Police charged the teenager with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a permit, possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of a modified blank gun. He also faces a charge of illegal possession of 11 rounds of .380 ammunition.
The arrest came days after Wichit Police announced the detention of several teenagers linked to shootings in Wichit and Kathu. In that case, police seized homemade firearms, ammunition and spent shell casings, while multiple juvenile suspects were charged with attempted murder and illegal firearms offences.
