Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on May 14 ordered a crackdown on foreign nominee networks tied to land control in Phuket and Koh Phangan after an emergency meeting with senior police at Thai Khu Fa Building. The discussion lasted more than 2 hours 30 minutes and focused on dismantling schemes in which foreigners allegedly use Thai nominees to hold land and operate businesses illegally.

Freedom Beach case and visa measures targeted

Assistant national police chief Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej said the prime minister singled out two cases: alleged encroachment on reserved forest land near Freedom Beach in Phuket and the use of Thai nationality as a front for pool villa businesses on Koh Phangan in Surat Thani.

Jirabhop said Anutin instructed police to use the law decisively against illegal foreign activity and to remove the problem completely, with no remaining foreign influence over Thai land.

The meeting also covered visa measures, which officials described as central to screening foreigners and closing legal loopholes used to expand influence.

Under the enforcement plan, national police chief Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet and deputy national police chief Pol Gen Samran Nuanma will lead the Royal Thai Police response under the prime minister’s orders.
