Thailand’s Songkran Festival 2026 is projected to generate more than US$909 million in nationwide tourism revenue, according to a Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) report released Wednesday. The annual celebration, held from 11–15 April, saw increased participation from both Thai and international travelers, with Phuket and other key destinations contributing to a 6% year-over-year revenue rise.

Bangkok’s Maha Songkran World Water Festival at Benjakitti Park drew over 108,640 attendees, split almost evenly between Thai and international visitors, and produced an estimated economic impact of US$8.5 million. The Saneh Art by Songkran Festival at Lumphini Park attracted more than 94,500 people.

In southern Thailand, Songkhla’s Sadao border crossing recorded over 36,000 crossings between 10 and 12 April, primarily from Malaysia. Hotel occupancy in the region averaged 80 percent, with total arrivals projected at 70,000 and local tourism revenue reaching approximately US$21 million.

National Tourism Growth and International Arrivals

International arrivals during the Songkran period are expected to reach about 500,000, a 4% increase from last year, generating around US$245 million. Domestic tourism is projected at 5.96 million trips, up 7%, contributing roughly US$647 million.

Select destinations, including Pattaya, will continue Songkran celebrations beyond the official 15 April conclusion, sustaining travel momentum. The TAT report highlights Songkran’s role in supporting Thailand’s tourism economy and reinforcing the country’s reputation for high-quality cultural experiences.
