Thalang drug raids in Phuket net users, suspected dealer and 200 meth pills

Thalang drug raids in Phuket on the evening of May 12 led to arrests for meth possession and drug-impaired driving, while a later raid seized 200 ya bah pills, officials said. The operation was carried out under the Ministry of Interior’s “Social Order” policy campaign and began about 7pm at a checkpoint set up in the alley behind Wat Tha Ruea in Moo 3, Srisoonthorn.

District Chief Wilailak Ruangphol led the joint team, which included district security officers, volunteer defence forces, village headmen and community security volunteers. Officials described the checkpoint area as a known high-risk location for illegal activity.

Urine tests led to rehab referrals and a second raid

Random urine testing during the operation returned 17 positive results for drug use, district officials said. Of those, 16 agreed to enter rehabilitation programmes and perform community service as part of reintegration measures.

Another person was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and was prosecuted immediately. One suspect found carrying methamphetamine was handed over to Thalang Police Station for legal action.

Officials said information gathered from drug users during the operation led to a follow-up raid later the same night in Moo 1, Mai Khao. There, officers arrested a suspected small-scale drug dealer and seized 200 ya bah pills.

The suspect was handed over to Tha Chatchai Police for further investigation, including efforts to trace larger drug trafficking networks operating in the area.
