Thalang police charge 37 heavy-truck drivers over peak-hour violations

Thalang police charged 37 heavy-truck drivers between 1 and 7 October 2026 for breaching peak-hour traffic restrictions, according to the police station.

Pol. Col. Nikorn Choothong, superintendent of Thalang Police Station, led inspections on Highway 402, or Thepkrasattri Road, Phuket’s main north–south route. The operation targeted heavy vehicles operating during restricted periods.

Under the rules, trucks with three or more axles, along with ten-wheel trucks and larger vehicles, may not drive, stop or park on highways from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00 each day. The restrictions do not apply on public holidays or traditional festival days.

Police said the measures are intended to reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and increase safety for residents and visitors. Most of the 37 cases involved trucks travelling during the restricted morning and evening periods.

Nikorn said enforcement would continue and urged transport operators and drivers to comply with the time-based restrictions.
