Thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain forecast for Phuket

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts thunderstorms across 60% of Thailand’s southern west coast from 6am on October 17 to 6am on October 18, with isolated heavy rain in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

The department forecasts minimum temperatures of 23–25°C and maximums of 32–36°C in the area. Waves are expected to be around one metre but could exceed two metres in thunderstorms.

The TMD said Southern and Eastern Thailand could experience persistent heavy to very heavy rain from October 18–20. A wider period of heavy to very heavy rain is forecast from October 21–25 across the lower Northeast, Central region, Bangkok and surrounding areas, the East and the upper South.

The department warned of possible flash floods and forest run-off during periods of heavy rain. It advised mariners to check routes, navigate cautiously and avoid areas affected by thunderstorms.
