Thunderstorms forecast across 60% of Andaman coast on October 1
The TMD forecasts thunderstorms across 60% of Thailand’s southern west coast, with waves above 2 metres possible in storm areas and south-westerly winds affecting waters from Phuket southwards.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts thunderstorms across 60% of Thailand’s southern west coast from October 1 to 2, with waves in the Andaman Sea potentially exceeding 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.
The 24-hour forecast covers 6am on October 1 to 6am on October 2, Thailand time. Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang and Satun are expected to be among the areas most affected.
For waters from Phuket southwards, the TMD forecasts south-westerly winds of 15–30km/h. Waves are expected to be about 1 metre high but could exceed 2 metres during thunderstorms.
In the upper Andaman Sea, winds are forecast at 15–35km/h, with waves of 1–2 metres and higher waves in storm areas. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand have been advised to avoid sailing through thunderstorms.
The TMD said a weak south-westerly monsoon was prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. Temperatures along the southern west coast are expected to range from 23–25°C at night to 33–36°C during the day.
