TMD forecasts isolated heavy rain and rough seas for Phuket area
Phuket is among the southern provinces where isolated heavy rain is forecast, while waves south of Phang Nga could exceed 2 metres during thunderstorms.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts thunderstorms across 60% of Thailand’s south-west coast, with isolated heavy rain in Phuket, Phang Nga and Ranong during its 24-hour outlook on 29 September 2026.
The department expects south-westerly winds of 15–35km/h from Phang Nga southwards, with waves of 1–2 metres. Waves could exceed 2 metres during thunderstorms.
The forecast is linked to a low-pressure area over the Gulf of Martaban and a fairly strong south-westerly monsoon covering the Andaman Sea and southern Thailand. Mariners have been advised to proceed cautiously and avoid areas affected by thunderstorms.
