A tourist couple was accused of spitting at a street vendor and leaving without paying for food during an early-morning dispute in Phuket on May 4. Video recorded by witness Sumethon Kaeoduangyai showed the man allegedly spitting at the stallholder before walking away to rejoin his female companion.
Witnesses said the pair left the scene without settling their bill for the meal they had consumed. The footage also showed the woman raising her middle finger at people nearby while the argument continued.
Video shows gestures during Patong street dispute
Ms Sumethon, who filmed the incident, said she was also targeted with offensive gestures despite not being involved in the original confrontation. She called on authorities to take action over the behavior seen in the clip.
The case drew anger online and added to wider concern over conduct in busy resort areas. The dispute unfolded as the island continues to manage heavy visitor traffic, with more than 14 million arrivals cited in the source material.
