Tourist Missing After Kayak Capsizes Off Railay Bay in Krabi

Authorities were searching on May 19 for a tourist missing after a kayak capsized in rough seas off Railay Bay, Krabi, a popular Andaman destination near Phuket. Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park said two tourists had rented the kayak and were swept away by strong winds and waves before the vessel overturned about half a nautical mile from shore. One tourist was rescued by a nearby operator’s boat, while the second remained unaccounted for.

Search widened by park, navy and private boats

Park chief Saengsuree Songthong ordered an immediate response from the Railay Information Center, the Poda Island ranger unit and the Talay Waek Information Center.

The operation was expanded with support from the Third Naval Area Command, local tourism associations and private operators. Teams searched both offshore waters and the coastline.

High waves and unstable winds disrupted the initial effort. Searchers recovered only a kayak paddle near the incident site.

Officials said the search would be intensified with coordinated manpower until the missing tourist is found. The park also warned boat operators and visitors to use extreme caution in the Andaman Sea during a period of strong waves, thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park at 075-656150 or through the park’s official Facebook page.
