Tourists praised for helping injured monk at Promthep Cape

Officials from the Rawai Municipality Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre rescued an injured monk at Laem Phromthep on Phuket’s southern tip on Thursday evening, with two foreign tourists volunteering to help carry the stretcher up a steep path.

The municipality said officials responded to a call for assistance at about 6:40pm after receiving reports that a monk had sprained his ankle at the base of Promthep Cape and was unable to walk back up.

Firefighters, paramedics and nursing staff were sent to the scene. Emergency personnel provided first aid by applying an elastic bandage to support the monk’s injured ankle before moving him on a stretcher along the difficult terrain.

During the rescue, two foreign tourists who witnessed the incident volunteered to assist officials in carrying the stretcher up the steep path to safety.

The monk was then transported to Chalong Hospital for further treatment.

Rawai Municipality praised both the emergency responders and the tourists for their help.

“Thank you to the two foreign tourists who helped with the move,” the municipality said in a statement. “Their support was greatly appreciated.”

The rescue highlighted cooperation between emergency personnel and members of the public at one of Phuket’s most visited landmarks.
