Trailer truck wheel strikes motorbike rider at Phuket intersection

A woman was seriously injured after a wheel came off a trailer truck and struck her while she was waiting on a motorbike at a red light at the Koh Kaew intersection in Phuket at about 2pm on Tuesday (22 September 2026).

Phuket City Police said the truck, which had Songkhla licence plates, veered towards nearby shops as it passed the intersection. A shop and other private property were damaged, and the truck driver stayed at the scene while police responded.

A witness identified as Mr B said one wheel came off first and rolled ahead of the truck. Another witness, Ms Si, said the woman was alone on the motorbike and was knocked unconscious by the wheel.

Vachira Phuket Hospital confirmed to The Phuket News that the woman was in the intensive care unit. Emergency responders and mechanics attended the scene to move the truck and clear the road, while the crash caused significant traffic congestion around the intersection.

The cause of the wheel detachment and the full extent of the damage remain under investigation.
