Two foreign tourists arrested in Patong after allegedly assaulting police during drunken disturbance

Two foreign tourists were arrested in Patong in the early hours of June 3 after police said they assaulted officers who intervened in a disturbance.

According to a police report, officers from Patong Police Station were on routine patrol when they found two foreign men arguing with a woman behind Soi Saen Sabai on Phra Metta Road in Kathu district.

Police said the two men were involved in a loud verbal dispute when officers stepped in to calm the situation and separate the parties. One of the men allegedly shouted abuse at officers, while police noted a strong smell of alcohol on his breath.

The same suspect then allegedly pushed an officer in the chest and spat at him before trying to leave the scene, according to the report. Police said both men ignored repeated orders to stop and continued toward the front of a nearby shop.

As the confrontation escalated, officers called for backup from additional patrol units, motorcycle police and traffic police. During the arrest, the two suspects allegedly resisted and struggled with officers.

Police said the men punched officers during the struggle, injuring three officers. Reported injuries included cuts and bruises to the face and hands, with one officer suffering a cut near the right eyebrow, another a facial injury to the left forehead, and a third a similar injury near the eyebrow along with abrasions to the right hand.

Police also reported that three associates of the suspects tried to interfere while the arrests were being made.

The identities and nationalities of the two men had not been confirmed in the source report.
