Two injured in Koh Kaew house fire

Two people were injured in a house fire in Koh Kaew on Tuesday afternoon, with one taken to Mission Hospital Phuket and the other to Vachira Phuket Hospital, officials said.

The fire was reported at about 4pm at a house in Soi 5 of Chao Fah Garden Home Village, according to the Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office.

Firefighters from the Koh Kaew Municipality Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit responded with two fire trucks, two ambulances and 10 personnel, with support from other relevant agencies. Emergency crews arrived to find flames spreading inside the house.

Officials said the fire was contained and extinguished by 4:15pm.

The injured were identified as Wisarut Khamchue, 38, and Saowanee Maliwan, 70. Mr Wisarut was taken to Mission Hospital Phuket, while Ms Saowanee was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for treatment.

According to a report filed by Phuket City Police, initial investigations found that Ms Saowanee, who lives at the house, called for help after discovering flames inside the property. Mr Wisarut entered the house to assist her, but a loud explosion, believed to have been caused by cooking gas, was then heard and the fire rapidly intensified.

Police have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the fire, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. Investigators from Phuket City Police Station examined the scene and are coordinating with forensic officers as the investigation continues.
