Two killed, three teenage girls injured in Mai Khao motorbike crash
Two riders died and three 14-year-old girls were injured after two motorbikes collided on Thepkrasattri Rd in Moo 1, Mai Khao, police said.
Two people were killed and three 14-year-old girls were injured in a motorbike crash on Thepkrasattri Rd in Mai Khao on Tuesday evening, police said.
The crash happened at about 5:35pm on the outbound carriageway opposite D-Day Metal Power Tool in Moo 1, Mai Khao. Officers from Tha Chatchai Police Station were alerted by the Muang Mai branch of the Kusoldharm Phuket Rescue Foundation at 5:45pm, and traffic police and investigators were sent to the scene.
Police said the collision involved a white Honda Scoopy registered in Phatthalung and a red-and-black Yamaha X-MAX carrying four people. Both motorbikes were found heavily damaged in the grass beside the road, and a concrete roadside kilometre marker post had been broken in the impact.
The Yamaha was ridden by Sarawut Navien, who was carrying three 14-year-old female passengers identified as Saranya Navien, Thidawan Khaminkaew and Sasiwan Phanomrak.
Rescue workers from the Muang Mai and Mai Khao units gave emergency assistance before all five casualties were taken to Thalang Hospital. Mr Sarawut and the rider of the Honda Scoopy, whose identity had not been confirmed at the time of reporting, were later pronounced dead.
The three girls were injured and remain under medical treatment.
Both motorcycles have been impounded at Tha Chatchai Police Station while investigators examine the circumstances of the crash. Police said the cause remains under investigation before any legal action proceeds.
