Two Myanmar suspects arrested over Cherng Talay murder

Cherng Talay Police said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Myanmar man whose body was found earlier this month in Cherng Talay.

Police said officers were notified that a man’s body had been found on the road in front of the abandoned Dream Phuket Hotel and Spa in Moo 6, Cherng Talay. Investigators, forensic officers and a forensic pathologist from Vachira Phuket Hospital went to the scene and found that the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds. A knife sheath was found near the body, police said.

A black Honda PCX motorcycle was parked nearby. Police said officers searching the vehicle found a passport identifying the deceased as Ye Min Kyaw, a Myanmar national.

Cherng Talay Police, led by Pol Lt Col Anurak Klangnarong, Deputy Superintendent of Investigations, and Pol Maj Chanasin Prateep Na Thalang, Superintendent of Investigations, then interviewed witnesses, collected forensic evidence and reviewed CCTV footage from the area where the body was found and along the suspected escape route.

According to police, the investigation identified two Myanmar nationals as suspects in the killing. Phuket Provincial Court approved warrants for their arrest on June 9 on charges of jointly committing murder.

Police named the suspects as Thein Myint, also known as Jack, and Kyaw Khaing, also known as Chitmin. CCTV footage showed the pair riding a motorcycle away from Soi Khoktanod 12, which police believe was the area where the killing took place.

The two men were arrested on June 10 in the jurisdiction of Bang Maduea Police Station in Phunphin District, Surat Thani, and were later taken back to Cherng Talay Police Station. Police said both were transported back to Phuket to face prosecution.

Police said the case has now been closed, while officers continue work to establish the motive and determine whether any other people were involved.
