Unidentified man found dead in Thalang pond

Thalang Police are investigating after the body of an unidentified middle-aged man was found floating in a pond behind An-Nujum Mosque and Muang Thalang School in Moo 8, Thepkrasatri.

Police received the report at about 11:58am and attended the scene with investigators led by Pol Lt Col Kraison Boonprasop, officers from Thalang Police Station and members of the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation.

The man, whose name, nationality and other identifying details were not known, had slightly grey hair. He was wearing a light green long-sleeved shirt over a black short-sleeved shirt, blue jeans and leather shoes. A bag containing lawn-cutting equipment was found with him.

Village headman Paisit Utachakul said villagers spraying weeds in the area discovered the body and alerted nearby residents, who contacted him and police.

The body was beginning to decompose. A preliminary examination by police and a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital found no visible wounds or signs of assault. The doctor initially suspected that the man had drowned, but police said a detailed autopsy would be needed to establish the exact cause of death.

The body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination. Police are continuing efforts to identify the man and locate his relatives.
