US Navy carrier and destroyer due in Phuket with more than 5,100 sailors

More than 5,100 US Navy personnel are due to visit Phuket when the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush and guided-missile destroyer USS Delbert D. Black call at Phuket Deep Sea Port from 5 to 10 October 2026, according to a report by Chiang Rai Times.

The nuclear-powered USS George H.W. Bush is a Nimitz-class carrier with about 4,800 crew members. The USS Delbert D. Black, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, carries roughly 320 sailors. The ships are scheduled to remain in port for several days of rest and recreation.

Thai tourist police and representatives of the US Embassy have held meetings on security and traffic arrangements for the visit, the report said. Thai officials also reminded visiting personnel to comply with local laws and respect Thai customs.

The planned arrival is expected to increase demand for restaurants, hotels, shops and tours. The report said local vendors and operators were preparing for the influx, while security patrols were expected to be increased in busy areas including Patong.
