Vietnamese fugitive arrested in Phuket on Interpol Red Notice

Phuket Immigration police have arrested a 24-year-old Vietnamese man in Patong who was wanted under an Interpol Red Notice over alleged fraud and embezzlement involving millions of baht.

The suspect, identified only as Mr Nguyen, had been living and working in Patong after Vietnamese authorities issued an international arrest warrant, according to Phuket Immigration.

A special operations team led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Adisorn Boonchum located Nguyen outside a shop on Rat-Uthit 200 Year Road in Patong after receiving intelligence. Officers confirmed his identity and cancelled his temporary stay in Thailand under the Immigration Act of 1979.

Nguyen, who reportedly understands Thai well, acknowledged the legal proceedings and was taken into custody.

The arrest followed a request from Vietnam’s Interpol office for assistance in locating him over allegations of large-scale property fraud and embezzlement. Immigration Division 6 subsequently revoked his right to remain in Thailand.

Nguyen is being held at Phuket Immigration while officials process the case and coordinate with Vietnamese authorities over extradition.
