Wichit Police arrested a 30-year-old man in Phuket at about 4pm yesterday over a shooting that left his neighbor with a minor arm injury earlier the same day. Police said Weerapong was taken into custody at a house in Moo 6, Wichit, under a Phuket Provincial Court warrant on charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Officers were first called to a residence in Wichit at about 2:30am after reports of gunfire, according to police. The injured man, identified only as Sorawit, told investigators the dispute began while the two neighbors were drinking alcohol.
Evidence seized and investigation steps
Sorawit said the argument escalated when Weerapong allegedly went back inside his house, retrieved a handgun and returned outside, where two shots were fired, police said.
Investigators and patrol officers then examined the property and collected evidence before seeking the arrest warrant from Phuket Provincial Court.
Police said they seized a 9mm handgun, two live 9mm rounds in the magazine and two spent shell casings found at the scene.
Forensic officers were also called to collect additional evidence, including DNA samples from the suspect and the firearm. Following his arrest, Weerapong allegedly confessed to all charges and remains in custody for further legal proceedings.
