Wichit Municipality has opened a four-storey elderly welfare and community centre costing B51 million, alongside a separate B1.628 million base for Civil Defence Volunteers.
Wichit Municipality has opened a four-storey elderly welfare and community centre costing B51 million, alongside a separate building for Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs).
The opening ceremony for the Well-being Creation Centre, known as “Sun Sang Suk”, was held on Thursday, 29 October 2026, at Sri Phuwanat Park in Moo 1, Wichit. Vice Phuket Governor Suwit Phansangiam led the ceremony, which was attended by Wichit Mayor Kreetha Chotiwichpipat, municipal officials, council members and local residents.
Completed in 2023, the centre houses the municipality’s Social Welfare Division and is intended to support elderly welfare, social services and community activities. Its facilities will provide space for health and social activities, lifelong learning, vocational training and the sharing of local knowledge between generations.
The division also assists elderly people, people with disabilities, women, children, young people and disadvantaged groups. The centre will coordinate with community leaders, local committees and partner organisations involved in social welfare and community development.
The separate CDV building was completed in 2022 at a cost of B1.628 million. It will serve as an operational base for volunteers involved in disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation, emergency coordination and public assistance.
Speaking at the opening, Suwit said the facilities would help older residents socialise, take part in activities and continue learning, while sharing their knowledge and experience with younger generations. He also said the centre would improve access to welfare rights and public assistance for vulnerable groups, and support vocational skills and self-reliance.
Suwit called on the municipality and community organisations to maintain both facilities and equipment and ensure that regular services and activities were provided.
